It’s been an unseasonably warm winter around town, but there are still places to enjoy a little “man-made” snow fun. So whether you’re ready for family fun in the snow or perhaps a fun date night, get ready for some outdoor fun at one of these spots.
New this year, snow machines will turn downtown Cincinnati into a winter wonderland. Every weekend in January, enjoy Snow Banks at The Banks. Joe Nuxhall Way will be closed off and blanketed with snow to enjoy sledding, and a 50-foot snow tube ramp near the SkyStar Wheel. There will also be an ice bar and fire pits for s’mores and hand-warming. Every half-hour, the snow machines will create a blizzard so you can get a reminder of winters’ past.
Friday nights is more for adults, with local restaurants and bars offering food and drink specials, and there’s an après-ski happy hour lounge from 5-9 p.m. on Freedom Way.
Saturdays and Sundays are great for families, with more than a dozen snow activities. Don’t miss the horse carriage rides, live ice sculpture carvings on Crosley Terrace, and snowman building at the Great American Ballpark.
The events are open from 12-9 p.m. Saturdays and 12-6 Sundays. Admission is $5 per person Saturday and Sunday for all ages. Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. are free and include only the Frontgate Snow Lounge with fire pit seating, snow blizzards on the half hour, and sing-a-longs with local radio stations. No other snow attractions are open Friday evenings.
Perfect North Slopes
This year marks Perfect North’s 40th anniversary of providing winter fun. Located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Perfect North is a great spot for couples, families and snow-lovers of all ages. While weather conditions have made it tough on the park this year, there is decent man-made snow coverage on most of the ski slopes every day. We’d suggest checking out the snow report before you pack your ski gear in the car.
The Terrain Park and snow tubing lanes tend to fare better on warmer days. Snow tubing is great fun for the whole family, and you don’t need special equipment. Even on warmer days, be sure to wear snow pants and gloves during tubing to help you stay dry and warm. Check out their website for hours and admission fees.
